Terra Lightfoot

Whether you’re talking about her as a songwriter, guitarist, or vocalist, one thing is indisputable: roots rocker Terra Lightfoot is a ferocious talent. Her songs tap into the raw emotion of hearts supercharged by love, lust, loneliness, and temptation. Her playing melds expert finger-picking and distorted, hook-heavy melodies. Her elemental voice commands attention and awe, whether on slow-burning soul ballads or hard-charging rock numbers. Over the years, Terra has shared stages in France, Germany, the UK, the US, and Canada, with acts such as Gordon Lightfoot, Blue Rodeo, The Sadies, and Ron Sexsmith. From start to finish, her songs ring radiant and remarkable as shown on albums "Every Time My Mind Runs Wild" and 2023’s "Healing Power," which released to wide acclaim. Terra Lightfoot’s set on Thursday June 20th is not one to be missed.
Doors at 7pm, music at 8pm.

The Commoners with The Radiant

The Commoners

Possessing a sound tapped from the oaken belly of a whiskey barrel, The Commoners are a 4 piece Roots/Rock outfit from Toronto, Canada. Offering their own blend of a tried and true musical mixture, the group pepper their sound with high-energy riffs, soulful vocals, and rich harmonies that combine to take the listener on a journey through a Southern-style rock experience.
The group was cobbled together over the course of a decade, restructuring and adapting through numerous obstacles to form the unit as it exists today.  The Commoners unite under a shared dream: to write, perform, and share music that is an authentic nod to the greats who paved the way before them.  Channeling their deep respect and admiration for Roots/Rock trailblazers, The Commoners incorporate rhythmic stylings inspired by Motown’s groove masters and emotive vocals akin to Sam Cooke and Otis Redding to capture a sound that is very much of the here and now.
Their 2022 "Find A Better Way" album demands attention from the first note. The opening lines, “I scream at the top of my lungs, and stamp my feet, ’til the floor comes undone,” immediately inform that a wild ride lies ahead. Recorded in Toronto at RHC Music, and produced by guitarist/producer Ross Hayes Citrullo alongside executive producer Renan Yildizdogan, The Commoners crafted a record which strikes the perfect balance between new and old, fresh yet familiar.
As a collective, we find ourselves emerging into a changed society, with uncertainty looming and shadowing the future. In their upcoming release, The Commoners remind us that music has a unique ability to heal, a medicine of extraordinary merit, and balm for the soul during dark times. Every major movement in history gave rise to change makers, and The Commoners are taking their stand, here to lead and inspire us all to find a better way.
Doors at 7:30, music at 8:30.
All ages, rush seating, no refunds.

Releasing their debut EP in 2019, The Radiant received a nomination from BreakOut West WCMA’s for Rock Artist of the Year 2020. The Radiant continues to mature and evolve. “They’re comin’ for you.”

Dirty Catfish Brass Band with the Riders' Pep Band Pre-Show and Lyssa and the Try-Tones

Dirty Catfish Brass Band

Dirty Catfish Brass Band’s aim is to inspire, create and instigate – but, mostly, they just want you on your feet. Undeniably tight, yet reckless as hell, Dirty Catfish Brass Band deals in powerful phrasing and performances drenched with rhythm. Invoking the sounds of brass bands and funk ensembles, the collective dares to reimagine the streets of a prairie city as one that is hot, alive, and brimming with soul. Based in Winnipeg, MB, the crew strives to surprise, challenge, tickle, and pay homage to the New Orleans tradition by giving it a new audience in an unsuspecting locale. From street corners to festival stages, and community celebrations to sporting events, DCBB use the power of music to bring joy to their audience. Get ready to move.

Lyssa and the Try-Tones

Born from a mutual desire to keep soul music alive and real in the modern age, Lyssa and the Try-Tones sound like something you'd hear pressed onto vinyl coming out of Detroit in the 1970s. Based out of Regina, SK, the band’s groovy pulse is topped by Lyssa’s powerhouse vocals which are sure to get the energy moving and good vibes rolling.  True to the spirit of the genre, the band records all their songs live off the floor. Showcasing real musicianship while keeping it real in an old school kind of way.
Riding the release of their first EP “Basement City View” in 2022 as well as their second EP, “Chasing Shadows” in Fall 2023, the band is looking forward to showcasing everything that makes them truly amazing at Long Day’s Night 2024.

The Riders’ Pep Band Pre-Show

The 620 CKRM Saskatchewan Roughrider Pep Band was formed in 1993 under the direction of band director Bob Mossing. It is a high energy “rah-rah” group, the first in the CFL, fashioned after USA College football team bands. The Band’s first major trip was the 1993 Grey Cup in Calgary, Alberta. The Pep Band has gone to every Grey Cup since 1993. Besides the Grey Cup, the Band plays at each Saskatchewan Roughrider home game, both in the stands and in front of the stadium before games.

The 620 CKRM Saskatchewan Roughrider Pep Band is comprised of volunteer musicians who enjoy a good time. Members range in age from late teens to seniors and all are strong Saskatchewan Roughrider fans. Although they love their Roughriders and feature several Roughrider fight songs, they also honour the other teams in the CFL by playing their fight songs. For those teams who do not have official fight songs, the Band has made some up. The 620 CKRM Saskatchewan Roughrider Pep Band truly is a CFL ambassador. The Band promotes the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the CFL, and Regina, Saskatchewan.

Mariel Buckley

Mariel Buckley

Unapologetically genuine, wry, and soft-hearted - Mariel Buckley has planted her flag firmly as a songwriter who’s in it for the long haul. She aims to find herself squarely on the fringes and exactly where she belongs: singing and writing songs for the underdog.
Her candor and magnetic live show have been charming listeners across North America since her debut LP, Driving In The Dark (2018). With some impressive accolades on the way including Roots Artist of the Year (Western Canadian Music Awards, 2019), and taking home the grand prize of $100,000 from the year long Project Wild commercial radio artist contest, Mariel was ready for her next move.
Now with her debut album and thousands of miles under her belt, Buckley looks to turn country/folk music on its head, with her follow-up album, Everywhere I Used To Be [2022]. Anchored by the haunting whine of the pedal steel, rounded out by heavy synth pads, the resulting collection is a driving, swooning, toe-tapping catharsis; sealed and delivered by Buckley’s signature crooning brand of angst-ridden alt-folk.
Buckley made an intentional move towards decidedly pop/contemporary production, and quickly found themselves in a daily rhythm of deconstructing and rebuilding each song to find its full potential. Backed by some of Canada’s finest session musicians, their collective efforts are showcased with abundant heart, and skillful flourishes while respecting the space necessary for the songs to speak.
Perhaps her mysterious ambiguity around genre, traditional storytelling, and identity is what gives these new songs such an honest shine. Buckley continues to be a trailblazer in her own right, with a firm grip on the steering wheel and a destination in mind - we’re just happy to be along for the ride.
Get your dancing shoes as we close out our 2023 festival on, June 25th at Long Day's Night! Tickets are $32 and available at Swift Current Pharmasave or eventbrite.com.

Begonia with Robin Cisek

Begonia with Robin Cisek

When Alexa Dirks started describing her latest album as Begonia, Powder Blue, (2023) she turns to vivid imagery: her baby blanket, the airiness of clouds on a summer day, chlorine-filled water in a hotel pool, circa-1970s Elvis Presley wearing an ill-fitting jumpsuit, her collection of faded denim jackets.
“Powder Blue is more of an emotion,” explains the Winnipeg, Canada, native. “The name of this album needed to be something that encompasses all of the feelings that these songs give me when they are put together. When I listen to them as a unit, they send me back to the words, the colour.”
Fittingly, Powder Blue’s music feels timeless and classic, as well as eclectic. Trip-hop beats and propulsive grooves pulse throughout the album, shadowing Dirks' stunning voice; she alternates between a dusky croon and an expressive, belting delivery. The album nods to vintage soul ("I'm Not Dying," "Crying") sunny R&B ("Bleeding Heart") and soaring balladry ("Chasing Every Sunrise"). Yet the album is firmly in the realm of contemporary music: Standout "The Only One" is modern, keyboard-polished pop that features Dirks' most powerful vocal performance on the album.
Don't miss this pop powerhouse Saturday, June 24th at Long Day's Night! Tickets are $37 and available at Swift Current Pharmasave or eventbrite.com.
Opening for Begonia is Indigenous Super Stars’ Canada 2022, Best Emerging Artist, Robin Cisek: a Metis artist from the Edmonton area who creates melodic electro-pop with an alternative flair. Cisek’s music has been compared to BANKS, Ariana Grande and Robyn. Robin Cisek emerged into her music career after years of struggles with health problems. “My inspiration comes from my experiences and my Indigenous heritage which takes form in my music through concepts, alternative beats, and lyrics,” says Cisek.
Her latest single, “Hey Disaster” (August 2022) has resonated with many people at live shows and through streaming. “Hey Disaster” is Cisek’s highest streaming song across all streaming platforms. Her latest release, “Zeus” (June 2022) has created a buzz in music blogs and has been published in 21 different articles with raving positive reviews. The song also charted at number two on the Indigenous Music Countdown (August 2022) and was nominated for “Best Vocal Category” in the Unsigned Only Music Competition (2022).

Royal Foundry with Harehound

to Jun. 24

Royal Foundry with Harehound

Anchored by Jared Salte and Beth Schumacher, The Royal Foundry is a musical bullet train. With Indie rock songs like "Listen to the beat" and "okay?" tearing up the radio charts to their pop driven "All We Have" and "Dreamers" being used by Disney, MTV, and the NHL, their live performances go beyond energetic; it's enveloping and electric and has led them to share the stage with the likes of Twenty One Pilots, July Talk, The Strumbellas, and many more.
Both Jared and Bethany were born and raised amongst the beautiful Prairie-Skies of Alberta, Canada. Bethany was the preacher’s daughter who developed a love for the visual arts. Jared on the other hand grew up surrounded by music as the son of a Touring-Rock-Musician. They quickly formed through a musical and literal marriage. Jared and Bethany Salte had no intentions of starting the Electro-Folk-Pop trio that is now The Royal Foundry; But after the release of “All We Have” received international exposure through the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and ABC’s Rookie Blue they knew they had discovered something special.
Their music has been featured on NPR, BBC, CBC, and over the course of their genre-bending journey they have amassed nearly 4 million streams on Spotify alone. The band has gone on to win numerous awards, have chart topping singles, and tour extensively in North America. The Royal Foundry has shown no signs of slowing down with the release of their latest album "Little High Little Low" (2022). The Royal Foundry is a driving force in the indie alt-rock scene. Their latest single has skyrocketed up the charts, beating out major label artists in the Canadian Top 20 Alt-Rock and garnered them millions of streams.
This new direction pulls them away from their folk roots and is the sort of music you might expect if Mutemath crashed a tea party with Coldplay and The Civil Wars. Their list of accolades reads like the list of a band that’s been together for at least a decade. It’s hard to imagine that this has happened in a few short years.
Get ready to boogie on this Friday, June 23rd at Long Day's Night! Tickets are $37 and available at Swift Current Pharmasave or eventbrite.com.
Opening for Royal Foundry is Red Deer, Alberta’s Harehound. Rebecca Raabis has been writing and performing for over 10 years and has made some major milestones, such as having songs on Netflix (Ben’s at Home), opening for Marianas Trench, and having a song appear on Toronto's TV series "Rookie Blue”. She has played shows across mid and western Canada including Toronto’s “Honey Jam” and Canadian Music Week.
The band consists of members Rebecca Raabis (lead vocals, bass) Colin Langstraat (drums, backing vocals), and Craig Gomez (guitar) - who are no strangers to the music scene.
Their debut single “Claws” sets the standard for the synth rock powerhouse sound that the band strives for. Lyrically, Claws addresses the idea of reaching for a seemingly possible goal and not letting anything get in your way - in this case, the personification about the roadblocks in creating music.
Harehound’s debut EP is set to be released in the summer of 2023. Their mix of alt pop and punk rock influences makes for a hard hitting, catchy sonic attack that is sure to make you proudly dance your night away.
