The Blenders Music Series is pleased to host the Big Little Lions on Saturday, March 3 at the Lyric Theatre in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The Big Little Lions features the ferocious, creative, song-writing, and musician duo Helen Austin and Paul Otten.

Helen Austin and Paul Otten met when both were on a conference song-writing member success panel. A few years later, they started the Big Little Lions from afar—Helen was in Vancouver Island, British Colombia and Paul was in Cincinnati, Ohio. Together, this duo has won multiple awards for their music including a Canadian Folk Music Award for Ensemble of the Year, first place in the International Song-writing Competition, and the top prize of Song of the Year in the John Lennon Song-writing Competition.

Both Helen and Paul are prolific songwriters and between the two of them, have hundreds of TV, movie, and ad placements of their music. As well, they are often featured on several CBC radio shows including The Vinyl Café. Their music has also been featured on MTV’s Catfish, ABC’s The Vineyard, and MBC’s The Night Shift.

Helen and Paul’s songs are a dynamic fusion of feel-good and deep emotion that will cause listeners to be left with a strong emotional reaction. As Pop Matters said in a review of Big Little Lions, “The conviviality and charm that are palpable in these 12 tunes sound like the product of two people working closely and side-by-side. But, then again, the natural pairing of Austin and Otten is an indication that distance is just a number, one that can’t hold back real musical camaraderie”. You don’t want to miss what will be a spectacular performance!

The Lonesome Ace Stringband plays old-time, Appalachian folk songs, and fiddle/banjo tunes. Band members Chris Coole (banjo), John Showman (fiddle), and Max Heineman (bass) share a deep respect for the roots of the music, a keen sense of innovation to the performance and material, and a passion for the sound that transcends both. This is old-time music for today’s old soul.

Tickets for the Saturday, March 3rd show are $30 and are available at Pharmasave. Doors at the Lyric Theatre will open at 7:30pm and the music will begin at 8:30pm.  For more information about the show or the Blenders Music Series contact Sheri Florizone at 306-591-3642 or email lokisanserif@gmail.com.
